Some of the Writings of Levi Williams, while in prison at Johnston's Island:

After the death of his father in 1840, he went to live with his grandfather Nathan Williams, and was raised by him.  His mother remarried and passed away in 1873.

Editors Note**  This biography has been especially hard for me to write, because Levi Williams has become one of my favorites from the Maple Leaf.  Maybe it is because he was so young; maybe it's because he seems so innocent and naïve (considering what he had been through, I'm sure he was not); maybe it's because a life so young and full of promise was snuffed out at such an early age.  His musings come from the tender heart of a poet.  Whatever the reason, it gives me peace to see him treated with such respect at the Johnson's Island Confederate Cemetery site on Find-a-Grave.  My thanks to them.  Much of their information has been copied and transferred here, because I could say it no better.  Thank you Find-a-Grave.
